Make the bits behind an address range easier to understand.
An IPv4 subnet learning worksheet
I created this Excel worksheet to make subnetting easier to explore. It brings together an IPv4 address, a CIDR prefix, subnet and device bits, and the starting and ending addresses of a subnet.
Randomized address and prefix inputs provide practice examples. Decimal and binary views show how the address and mask relate to one another, alongside instructional notes about CIDR notation and private address ranges.
What the project demonstrates
The worksheet turns a networking concept into a visible sequence of inputs and calculations. It reflects my interest in making technical relationships easier to inspect and explain.
Original version
This is the original December 2023 workbook. Some subnet-count explanations and comparison calculations need correction, so it is shared as a historical learning resource rather than a validated network-planning tool. The download preserves the original formulas and content.
